BMGI eLearning Setup Guide

 

Welcome to BMGI! If this is your first time in our system, there are some things you can do to make your experience as satisfactory as possible. Please follow our steps below to ensure success!

Step 1: Internet Explorer - Add BMGI to your Trusted Sites List

BMGI launches all exams, quizzes, lectures and supporting files in a separate window, which most security settings regard as pop up windows. To prevent any problems, you must add BMGI to your Trusted Sites list:

    • Go to Tools > Internet Options.
    • Click on the Security tab.
    • Click on the Trusted Sites icon, then click the Sites button.
    • Make sure the "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone" box is unchecked.
    • Enter bmgi.org in the box next to the Add button and click Add.
    • Click Close.

Step 2a: Internet Explorer - Allow Pop-Ups in Pop-Up Blocker

    • Go to Tools >Pop-Up Blocker.
    • Click on Pop-up Blocker Settings.
    • Enter bmgi.org in the box next to the Add button and click Add.
    • Click Close.

Step 2b: Firefox - Allow Pop-Ups in Pop-Up Blocker

    • Go to Tools >Options.
    • Click on the Content tab.
    • Click on the Exceptions button next to "Block pop-up windows."
    • Enter bmgi.org in the box next to the Allow button and click Allow.
    • Click Close.

Step 3: Allow Pop-ups in Toolbars

Google Toolbar

Google is another toolbar that comes packaged with other applications, or can be downloaded from Google. The toolbar will look similar to this:

When you visit the eLearning website, the pop-up blocker icon will look like:

To allow pop-ups from BMGI, click the icon and it will change to:

This action only disables the pop-up from the site you were on when you OK'd it - other sites are still blocked.

Yahoo Toolbar

The Yahoo toolbar pop-up blocker is often along with other applications (such as the Flash Player plug-in), or it can be downloaded from Yahoo. The toolbar will look similar to this:

The highlighted icon is the Pop-Up Blocker. When you visit the eLearning website, the pop-up blocker icon will look like:

To allow pop-ups from BMGI, click the down arrow next to the pop-up icon and choose "Always allow pop-ups from..." The BMGI eLearning URL should be listed in the "Sources of recently blocked pop-ups" list. Click on the URL (courses.bmgi.org) and choose Allow. Say OK to the confirmation box, then choose Close.

Step 4: Internet Explorer - Enable Document Downloads

Your settings must be configured properly in order to download documents from BMGI. These documents can take the form of PDF files, Excel files or Minitab files. Please ensure your system is set up to allow these downloads.

Step 4A: Prompt for file downloads`

On your Internet Explorer toolbar:

  • Go to Tools > Internet Options
  • Click on the Security Tab
  • Click on the Trusted Sites icon and click on Custom Level (toward the bottom of the dialog box)
  • In the Security Settings - Trusted Sites Zone dialog box, scroll down to the Downloads section.
  • The first setting under Downloads is "Automatic prompting for file downloads." Select "Enable" and click OK.
  • Click OK on the Internet Options page to close the process.

Step 4B: Save files from Internet Explorer in Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP

  • Open your Control Panel (from your computer's "Start" menu)
  • Double click on Folder Options
  • Click on the File Types Tab
  • Locate "PDF Adobe Acrobat Document" in the list.
    • Tip: pres the "P" key on your keyboard to quickly scroll to the list of items beginning with "P"
  • When you've found "PDF Adobe Acrobat Document," click on it and click the Advanced button
  • Highlight "Open" in the dialog box
  • Check the box that says "Confirm open after download"
  • If the box next to"Browse in the same window" is checked, uncheck it.


  • Repeat steps for all file types: "XLS Microsoft Excel Worksheet" and "MTW File (Minitab Worksheet)."
